This position will serve as a Senior Research Technician for the Center for Vaccine Research.
The incumbent will be responsible for conducting independent methods and procedures for research involving molecular and cellular biology, as well as animal (NHP and small animals) in Biosafety Level (BSL) 2 and 3 environments with routine work in the Regional Biocontainment Facility (RBL). Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, designing and conducting independent studies; analyzing, preparing and presenting data as a means of providing recommendations to PI based on analyses; performing advanced biochemical and molecular biology techniques; maintaining tissue culture lines and generating primary cell cultures; independently initiating and troubleshooting research protocols; handling and manipulating small and large laboratory animals for inoculation, organ retrieval, RNA isolation and other necessary procedures and treatments; supervising and training other professional research personnel in specialized techniques; operating and maintaining laboratory equipment; maintaining thorough documentation of laboratory results and ordering and maintaining laboratory supplies.
Supervision of rotating students and undergraduate personnel required.
This position may require a yellow fever vaccination and successful completion of Department of Justice security clearance for work with Select Agents and Toxins, as required by Federal regulation.
Education Required Master's
Minimum Related Experience Level Required 2-3 years experience
Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position
Two years of laboratory experience in biology, molecular biology, immunology and virology. Extensive experience 6 years or more may be substituted in lieu of degree requirement.
Child Protection Clearances
The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
Background Check For position finalists, employment with the University will require successful completion of a background check.
